Well folks, it’s the start of August and we’re right bang in the middle of KKCL London Study Holidays Summer School 2013!
While there’s certainly plenty to organise (apologies for the absence of podcasting during the event-packed summer months), we’re really enjoying having the junior students here. Young learners of English are always a great source of energy and creative inspiration for our team and they keep us motivated to explore new ideas and activities.
In particular we’re having a great time with our Go Create! workshops and are pleased at what our students have managed to achieve through them.
In music production, for example, students use music software to lay down some serious beats and add their own vocals in our recording studio.
There have been a few ‘experimental’ tracks and we’re pretty sure some of the lyrics refer to a summer school romance or two, but we have been really impressed with the outcome. Well done to all our students for rocking the mics!
To top it all off, we create music videos for the tracks as part of an evening activity. You can check out two of them below:
We’ve had plenty of fun trips around London, making the most of the unusually hot weather. We’ve been enjoying KKCL’s home turf of Harrow and Wembley and taking advantage of the excellent sports facilities on offer. Our tennis sessions are conducted on the famous Harrow school playing fields and golf is taught by a PGA pro at Northwick park.
During a recent visit to Wembley stadium our students caught some daredevil motorcycle action (no, we don’t teach that). Here are a selection of pictures from the 2013 trips and activities:

Of course, there are tears when students finally leave, but that’s what it’s all about. At least we know we’ve done a good job!
Your child will be inspired to learn beyond English language. We teach photography, web design, TV presenting skills, animation, music and drama and it’s all integrated with our core English programme. We’ve had some great feedback already from this year’s summer school and seen a number of kids really come out of their shell.
Shachar (Israel): “I want to say thank you because you make me feel in a second home. I enjoy here very much!”
Elisa (Italy): “This experience was very beautiful and I love the teachers and the trips. I love everything.”
We truly believe that summer school is about helping students become confident and thoughtful communicators, not just boosting their knowledge of irregular verbs (although we do have a comprehensive list at the back of the workbook).
If you have a group of students and are interested in a tailor-made group programme, we can run London Study Holidays at any time of year for ‘closed groups’ (please note: there’s no guarantee of hot weather!).
